Participatory Projects
The Little Cage
I was commissioned by Peak to create new work for the 2018 Abergavenny Food Festival as part of the Horsebox Residency programme. I worked with young people in Abergavenny and groups of adults in Brecon making hundreds of corn dollies to fill the horse box.
The time when the whole community headed to the fields to bring the harvest home is long gone but most people have memories of harvest celebrations in school, in churches and community halls.
The making of a “corn dolly” was an ancient custom and traditionally made from the last sheaf of corn to be harvested, where it was believed the corn spirit was hiding. The corn dolly was often ceremonially destroyed to represent the death of the old and the beginning of new growth in the spring.
Tycroes Primary School LCS Project
An Arts Council of Wales Lead Creative Schools project that I led with animator Leo Nicholson. The video is a clip from a larger film in which the children discovered stories about their village some real and others more mythical.
Rise of the Bug
An Arts Council of Wales Lead Creative Schools project with pupils from St Mary and St Patrick's County Primary School, Maesteg, working in collaboration with another artist we worked with model-making, drawing, animation, film-making and large scale withy and tissue sculpture.
Illumine
A 2 day animation workshop with Illumine. Participants worked in reference to the magic lantern slide collection belonging to Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery. Illumine is an 18-month long digital arts training project for young ‘Image Makers’ (16-25 years) that is managed and coordinated by Peak on behalf of Powys County Council.
Community Connections
This animation was commissioned by Hepburn Photography for a Community Befriending Scheme in South Wales that matches volunteers with people in the community that are in need of company.
